Some highlights of the week...
*After a LONG wait, our Planners have finally arrived! (Yay!) Parents, please be sure to check your student's planners everyday, as we will have notes to write home each day. If you could initial on the right side of each day, that would really help to let me know that you received the message. Thanks!
* As a class, we have launched our Daily 5 Literacy Program, and we have worked really hard together to increase our reading stamina for the first part of the program - Reading to Self. The class decided that our goal would be 10 minutes of silent, uninterrupted Reading to Self time, 3 days in a row to reach a prize of TREAT DAY. Well, we reached that goal, and celebrated on Tuesday with candy. Good work Division 17! :)
* On Thursday, we had a special guest join us during our Morning Meeting! It was Heather's Special Helper/ Sharing Day, and she brought in her guinea pig Cuddles. Cuddles was adorable, and the kids really enjoyed having him visit for a short, but very sweet visit. Thank you to Heather's dad for taking time from his morning to bring him in.
* Also on Thursday was Meet the Teacher Night. Thank you to all who took time from their busy schedules to come in and visit our classroom. I enjoyed meeting and chatting with each and every one of you! I so appreciate your support in helping to make this year a great one! For those of you who did not get a chance to drop by, you are more than welcome to stop by any day after school. :)
* It was a rainy Friday afternoon, but our Terry Fox Run was a HUGE success! We walked/ ran with our Grade 4 big buddies from Ms. Hiebert's class, and enjoyed a freezie for a job well done.
*Last but not least, Poetry books were sent home this Friday to share with family at home. Please take some time to read these poems with your student at home. They were quite excited to get a chance to show them off at home. Please send these books back to school every Monday, as we will be adding more poems to them as time goes on. :)
Some things coming up...
*The September Scholastic Book Orders were due September 28, and I just put the orders through. If you did order books, they should be arriving in the next couple weeks. :)
* A LOT of students have not completed their Portal Permission forms. Please try to complete this over the weekend, as we are planning on doing walking field trips every Monday for Muddy Monday with the Grade 3's in Ms. Hoyes' class. Also on the Portal are permission forms to access the Internet at school when we go to Computer Lab. We cannot participate in these activities if the permission forms are not completed. :( Thanks to those who have completed these already. :)
* Thursday, September 5 is PICTURE DAY. Be sure to bring your best smiles!
* Skating Field Trip with Big Buddies - Permission forms were sent home last week, and need to be completed and returned back to school by October 4th. We are still in need of parent volunteer drivers, so if you are able to accompany us and drive some students on Tuesday October 17 (morning), please volunteer. If we do not have enough drivers, we will need to cancel.
Sorry for the lengthy post! Hope everyone has a GREAT weekend! :)
(Thanks Cuddles for coming in to visit!)
